William
Alther
William Alther is a representational
painter who works primarily in oils. His professional background is in wildlife
biology, and he spent twelve years as a zoologist at the Denver Museum of Nature
and Science. Always an avid artist, Mr. Alther has pursued a career in painting
for the past 25 years, studying fine art at the Rocky Mountain School of Art and
Design and the Denver Art Students League. Regarding his art education, Mr. Alther
states, "Perhaps my most beneficial training has come from friendships and painting
sessions with other artists. I nearly always learn something from spending time
with them, whether they are nationally known or just starting out."
Throughout
his painting career, Mr. Alther's extensive knowledge of the wildlife of the Rocky
Mountains has served both as a resource and an inspiration, allowing him key insights
for rendering convincing images of the natural world. In speaking of his work,
the artist observes, "I am most attracted to landscape and wildlife subjects,
which often go hand in hand, but I don't want to be limited. Anything I find compelling
is a possibility for a painting."
