Isaac Lowe
A native of Montana, Isaac was born in Billings in 1975, and with the encouragement of his parents, began drawing at an early age. By the time he was in high school he was earning money painting commissioned portraits, a practice that he continued through his college years. In 1995, Isaac enrolled at Montana State University in Bozeman to pursue a degree in Fine Art, but left after two years. "I got restless," he remembers. "I moved to rural Oklahoma, put painting on the back burner and played guitar in a band for a year. But I found myself deeply moved by the simple, barren landscapes of that state."
Isaac's return to Montana brought him a renewed appreciation for its beauty, though now he found himself drawn to simpler views rather than grand vistas. He also became intrugued by the man-made, industrial elements in the environment. "I love to paint objects in a way that gives them personality. Although they are part of the landscape, they read more like still-lifes."
Isaac graduated from MSU with a degree in marketing, and in addition to painting, works on bronze patinas at Northwest Art Casting in Bozeman. He finds consulting with sculptors on their finished bronzes to be a highly demanding and creative endeavor, and a perfect complement to his work as a painter. Isaac lives in Belgrade with his wife and daughters, and is thrilled to be painting in the heart of the Gallatin Valley, where inspiring subjects are right outside his door.
