Joel
Ostlind
A self-taught artist, Joel Ostlind's
work reflects his innate sense of design and talent for draftsmanship. Born and
raised in Casper, Wyoming, Mr. Ostlind has spent most of his life on a horse,
cowboying in Texas, Montana, and Wyoming. Although he no longer rides for a living,
he tries to incorporate an understanding and respect of "things cowboy"
when he is dealing with those subjects. The artist says, "I was raised in
Wtoming and have chosen, after trying other areas, to live in this region and
work to interpret the things I value here: the light, the land, and the people
who move through it." Mr. Ostlind is known primarily for his elegant drawings
and masterful etchings; his oil paintings also create maximum effect through simplicity
of design and minimal lines. Mr. Ostlind was the featured artist at the Coors
Western Art Show, part of the annual National Western Stock Show and Rodeo, in
January of 2002.
