Vladimir
Zavalov
Mr. Zavalov's untimely death in
the fall of 2000 was a significant loss for the Western art world. At 51, the
artist was at the peak of his creative powers and leaves behind an enduring legacy--hundreds
of field sketches and paintings that serve as a testament to his immense talent.
The artist's heirs have graciously allowed Chaparral to continue to present a
select group of Mr. Zavalov's paintings for sale. Mr.
Zavalov's style developed over years of self-directed study and was rooted in
classical European impressionism. Despite his success in Moscow during the 1980's,
his disaffection with living in a communist state motivated him to move to America.
He emigrated in 1990 and settled in Idaho, where Sergei Bongart and other noted
Russian painters had established a small artisits' colony. During the last ten
years of his prolific career, the artist exhibited his work in reputable galleries
in Bozeman, Jackson, Sun Valley, Scottsdale and Carmel. | |
